Just adding some info here ... copperhead bites are usually not deadly to dogs and cats. If you've ever seen a dog get subcutaneous fluids or lifted skin between the shoulders, you'll see how it's absorbed locally rather than systemically. The immediate concern is pain relief, then preventing infection. The venom can make the skin it contacted necrotic which can slough, creating a nasty wound to take care of but the antibiotics usually take care of this. It is recommended that you take your dog to the vet for these two reasons, but it usually is not fatal.
