What Kind of Fish?

Well my boyfriend bought me a table top aquarium for my birthday!!! Right now we are waiting for the eco system to build up in the tank so I still have about 1 1/2 weeks before I can get any fish but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some cute little fish that can go in a fresh water tank that is about 15 gallons? How many fish is a good amount to have in a tank this size? Etc...

Smaller gish such as guppies, swordtails, mollies, neons, danios are all really super for a tank that size. A few community fish, and someones even a single betta can be mixed pending on the fish in there. I wouldnt put a ton of fish, just a few nice ones to watch. Sounds like you will have alot of fun!
Fish also depend on what water temperature you have, if there is a heater involved or not

I got a heater since I wanted to get some of the more colorful fish. Not that I don't love Koi and Goldfish but I thought it would be nice to have some small more colorful fish with maybe a wider variety.

Are there certain small fish that are always a no-no to put together in a tank? Or certain numbers of certain kinds that are important to keep in mind?

Thanks again!

Yep, You wouldnt want angelfish in with passive school fish, you wouldnt want any fish over I would guess 2-3 inches. Basically schooling fish and non agressives would be the way to go. There are SO many beautiful varieties!
I would suggest going to a really good store that specializes in aquatics that can help you with what would go well together then they can show you and give you a nice number that wont crowd the tank.
And then all we need are pics!

Mollies are awesome fish to have and so are swordtails. Swordtails are bright orange, red and yellows where as mollies are more classic colours, like black, silver and marble. I'd have to say a tank with the two would be very pretty.

Hi,

The golden fish rule "one inch of fish per gallon". For Discus its 1 discus per 10 gal. I don't suggest discus for your first tank because they are a difficult fish for the average aquarist. I've kept discus for 15 years and I am still learn about them. They need very good water quality and a variety of frozen foods like blood worms and glass worms. You can also feed them Discus bit now knows as color bits. Also a good flake would be a good idea. Well, good luck picking your fish. Let us know what type you get...a school of tetras are also nice....lemon, phantom red, septra...

Red...the fish nut...lol
