Sad news about our fish We lost our two cichlids, Jack and Blue on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. We believe that it was bloat from the veggie pellets that we fed them...it's the only thing that makes sense. We are very careful about keeping their protein/veggie matter ratio consistent and have fed these pellets before without any problems. There were no signs of bloat in the days leading up to the death. They were both active, hungry, no physical signs at all. We checked the temperature and pH immediately and both were ideal. I have no other conclusions other than the food. That's the only thing that they both ingested and our sailfin pleco is perfectly fine (he didn't eat the food). We've been keeping a close eye on him and he is acting normally. I was very upset by their deaths because we have had them for so long and they were such cool fish. Anyway, I am trying not to dwell on it but does anyone else know what could have happened?

Candice, I am so sorry to hear about your loss of Jack and Blue. Since you ruled out water problems and the pleco is fine, it does appear the food was the culprit.

Thanks guys. I was very affected by the deaths because they were so shocking. They were normal the night before and then dead in the tank the next morning.
