| Pregnant Guppy Im so excited. My guppy is pregnant! She is so huge and looks like a baloon. She swims from side to side, it looks so funny. She is by herself and hopefully I can get the babies before she eats them. She get's live and frozen worms. They all go nuts over them.

| Aww, I love guppys, they are the easiest fish to breed! I hope you catch the babies in time Did you get some liquid food for the babies to eat? |

| I have the liquid food and I read about egg yolks so I might do that too. Im sure I will catch them before mom eats them. I witnessed all the chinnie mom's giving birth, LOL. I keep running over to see if she has them. She just looks at me and opens her mouth for food!!! I read that they can get pregnant a month later without the male and she can be fertile for a long time. I thought that was pretty weird.

| I think they are able to store sperm and have several pregnancies from one mating.
In Singapore, my brother used to catch wild guppies from the big storm drains (kinda like a canal) and keep them in an aquarium. I also fed guppies to my red ear slider turtle back then. When I came to Canada and saw the prices of guppies I almost died You can get 3-6 guppies in Singapore for the price of one in Canada, and I'm talking about the fancy guppies. Actually, all the prices of tropical fish are twice to three times more expensive here, I took fishkeeping for granted in Singapore 'cos fish were so cheap there. |

| I don't have much fish breeding experience, but have worked in a pet Store and have had baby guppies before. what exactly is this liquid food you are talking about?

| Wow I guess there pretty expensive here! You must have had some nice guppies. Do you have any pics? Just curious on the difference in what they look like. The liquid stuff is for small fry. I think baby guppies can choke on other food unless it's really ground up. You feed it to them with a syringe and it's just liquid. It has nutrients that the babies need.

| melfred, one of the brands is Liquifry - http://www.bettasrus.com/products/liquifry.htm
They make a formula for egg layers and live breeders. It's a convenient food for babies, some fish breeders grow their own food for baby fish like brine shrimp and also the egg yolk like Courtney mentioned.
I don't have any pictures of them (I kept them when I was 6 or 7 ) but they were just regular guppies with colourful tails. Now it seems like each colour has its own special name, the fish store I bought my betta from had guppies with a colour called 'Tequila Sunrise' and they all had reddish-orange tails. They had a bunch of other colours with names but I forget what they are. |

| guppies can store 5 months of sperm,, so even if there is no male with a female, if she had previously been with a male, it is possible for her to have 5 batches of babies. Good luck with them
