Our newest addition of fish - cardinal tetras

We finally added fish to our small aquarium in our bedroom. All that was left was an upside down catfish. Previously, we had an African Cichlid and he was a big bully and no other fish could live in the aquarium with him without being killed. So, we bought cardinal tetras and a cute pleco. Attached is the picture of what cardinals look like.

Ummm... does 'upside down' catfish mean they were dead? Or is that just what they're called? Sorry, I'm not a fish person...

They are alive but look like they are swimming upside down. Thanks for the pic Denise.

I love cardinals, they look similar to neons. I heard cardinals were difficult fish to care for 'cos they are so sensitive to water conditions, they sure are pretty though!

What did you do with your African Cichlid?

The cichlid passed away. It is funny because when he was alive, he had full occupancy of the cave we have in the aquarium. The catfish kept to himself and stayed in a corner. Once the catfish realized the 'bully' was not around, he started hanging out in the cave. It was like he was saying, "Yeah, that's what I'm talking about"!

Dave bought 8 of them and we plan on getting more. We get our water tested regulary and it is always at a constant temperature and ph. The pleco we got is a rhino pleco. He is really cute.

Well, so much for the lovely aquarium full of fish we had in our bedroom. A case of ich wiped out everyone! Dave bought baby cardinals from a small mom and pop store and after he put them in the tank, slowly but surely, everyone got sick and died. I don't know if it was coincidence or what but we were both distraught. Our cardinals were getting so big! So, all we have in there right now is a pleco which is doing quite well. Dave bought a beautiful Siamese fighting fish for the small aquarium but he is in the big tank right now until our nitrates go down. Dave has to buy another filter for the little aquarium because the pleco pees and poos so much the filter that we have now can't keep up with him. Once the water is good, we plan on building up the aquarium again.

Drats! We had ick once and it only took one fish...we were very lucky. What type of fish are you going to get next time? Cardinals again?
