| My First Betta Pictures I finally got my fish. We haven't named him yet, but he was the fiestiest betta in the fish store: he was blowing bubbles and flaring up like crazy!
Here are some pictures that I just took:
Here's the tank with all of the decorations:
And here's the fishie:

| What a beauty! He looks so tiny in that huge tank. I love the plants you got, it wasn't that hard, right? You did an awesome job, he'll be happy for sure.

| He's beautiful and you have set his tank up very nicely. How about calling him Isaac? I don't know why, it just came to me while I was looking at the pics. |

| Thanks. He does live in a palace! He's been swimming around nonstop ever since we put him in there.
I'm glad that you like the plants. It took me a long time to pick them out.

| Awww, what a pretty betta! He looks like my youngest boy, "Flare." Look how your betta is exploring and checking everything out. He's so happy! Congrats!
BTW, if you notice that the water gets cloudy in a few days and looks kind of white, don't panic. Its called bacterial bloom and it happens when ammonia is introduced into a new tank. It clears up on its own as the tank cycles, and I usually do small water changes if I'm worried about the ammonia levels. I just wanted to let you know so you won't freak if it happens. I know I freaked when it happened to me! Bacterial bloom can't hurt the fish, so don't worry. |

But I was thinking something a little fiestier for this guy...I haven't really given it much thought yet though...

When should I start thinking about doing small water changes?

A 20% water change every week or two is what most people do (I think). If you have a huge bacterial bloom (which you may not) you can do small water changes every couple of days. Bacterial bloom can be a pain in the butt, but time gets rid of it. It happens to me everytime I set up a new tank, which is why I warned you. I remember once I came back from a trip, and I had three new tanks set up. The water was so cloudy when I got back that I couldn't even see the fish! I freaked but I knew it was harmless...but ugly.
I remembered to warn you too because looking at your pics, you can tell its a new tank. In a couple weeks you will see a real difference in the water clarity. It will get much clearer. |
