Mud Skippers??

I know someone here has or has had Mudskippers as a pet... id like to know if you still do and if you can provide any tips. I have him in a 10 gallon tank for now..(he's about 2 inches long) its got about 4 inches of water in and i made a beach of gravel with sand over it so he's got plenty of room to skip around on land (2/3 of the tank is dry.) he's also got rocks and plants to go on and a sort of swampy spot he seems to like. I have brackish water and a small filter.. the hood has two 15 watt incandesant light bulbs to keep it warm in the tank..
I feed him blood worms which he seems to really like. Anything else I should be doing?
Thanks!
Craig.

I wanted to get some when a local shop had them in a while back, but I didn't have an appropriate tank to set up at the time. They're very cool little guys. You can vary the diet up a bit, they'll eat things like crickets too. They can be territorial, so if you intend to get more you have to watch out for problems. Definitely a fun pet though.

thanks, just the one for now though, see how that goes! They are pretty cool to watch, last night he basically sat in his little swamp under a plant but this morning he crawled outto eat some blood worms on his beach! Any ideas as to how to heat that small amount of water? I think a regular fish tank heater wil be too big...considering the fact theres only aboout 4 inches of water in the tank!

Hi Zach,

I think Tetra makes heaters for turtles....maybe you could get one for the Skippy.

maybe, although for now i think keeping the lights on is holding the temp...gonna go get a thermometer this weekend to see what it actually is.. Hey, do yours spen more time IN the water than out? Mine does.. he is always in the watr although sometimes he comes up the beach so he's half in and half out...he is funny to watch, hell go in the deeper part and just lose his mind..looks like he's having a seizure...lol flipping and going bonkers.. and when he eats its a bit alarming too..lol he attacks like a shark!!! Here he is!

Hi Craig,

I came across this site with a couple of pictues on mudskippers.

http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Oddb...Mudskipper.htm

I know the hedgehog info is very bad and should be revised ASAP....just be aware of the info about mudskippers.
