| Attention Fish People:Clown Loaches I have a question. It's about Clown Loaches. I have always wanted them and bought a couple of them a LONG time ago when I first started out. They had ich and died because I didn't know what I was doing. Now Ick is not a huge deal, just a pain in the booty! If I get them they will be going in a 75 gallon tank so I was thinking about getting a school of 6. My question is "if" they come down with it's no biggie but once clowns are settled and used to the tank do they still get ich? I know from that initial purchase they will probably get it. I just don't want to deal with an outbreak all the so Im just wondering if anyone can tell me. I will not buy the loaches if they are Susceptible all the time, but if it's just that first purchase stress that's alright, I will clear them up of it. I keep all my tanks in tip top shape, cleaning and vacuuming once a week. Can anyone give me some advice on this because Im going to Pet smart tomorrow.

| I love clown loaches! Usually once the tank is settled they do fine (as long as you don't move, change tank parameters etc...) The best way to deal with the ich is to prevent it from happening. Add aquarium salt to the water ( I think it's 1 TBS/5 GAL, but double check the package). Also have the tank on the warmer side (around 78 degrees). If ich does occur there are many meds out there that do work. Just remember to use it at a weaker strength, as without scales alot of the meds are too strong for the loaches. If you just want a loach and aren't set on a clown, skunk loaches are a great alternative, much hardier and much better at eating snails. They get just a big. Ofcourse they aren't as colourful and can be a bit more dominant. But I have yet to loose one of them and I am on our 4th batch of clown's (ofcourse this was before I learned the salt trick. So far so good!) |

| Thanks for your advice. I got them. They are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO adorable. I got 6 but 2 look sick. Im not sure if they are sick or just adjusting. All the others are inspecting the tank. They were extremely expensive. They are $12 each and I got six, LOL. The good ting is at the Pet smart near me you have 2 weeks to bring back a sick or dead fish. They are so good with that. So if a couple die I will get get 2 more. I wanted to get them all in one shot, less risk of illnesses and ich. I got some blood worms defrosting for them. They are nosey little buggers. Quote: |

| Well i was going to put them in the quarantine tank but after I read you post decided to just put them in the home that they will be living in. Less chance of getting ick moving them here and there. Ich is not a huge deal, just a pesky nuisance. Quote: |

| The tank I think right now is 78 degrees. I broke my thermometer so I'll have to get a new one but all my tanks are set at around 78 degrees. I usually don't add chemicals unless I have to and don't change things too much in the tank, just the regular weekly water change and vacuuming the gravel. It’s a 75 gallon so they should be happy! Hopefully this works out for me because I love loaches so much!

| They are working out rally well. They love to school and check out things together in the tank. They get shrimp every morning and it's like they know when that plate comes they get excited. I love them.
