Exclamation

Those are beautiful birds, however I'm concerned about their conditions. Their cages look extremely bare and tiny, with little to no toys, and the perches could definately use an update.

Dowel perches can cause foot sores in birds if they are the only perch provided. Natural (bird-safe) branches are a great option, aswell as rope perches and specially manufactured perches like cement perches.

Parrots need alot of interaction and stimulation. Your birds would benefit alot if you gave them more toys. Though bird toys can get expensive, there are some great inexpensive toys you can make yourself.

I also wonder what their diet is like. An all-seed diet can often cause health problems in birds that do not get much out-of-cage time as seeds are extremely fatty and pet birds do not get the amount of excercize that they would in the wild.

Your lovebirds look extremely crowded in those small cages. Do you breed your birds?

There is a plethora of information about parrots on the internet, I would encourage you to invest some time looking into it for the health and comfort of your pets.

Here are some great websites to look into:

I hope you understand my concern.

Also.. you can see many of the toys I've made in my photo thread. I notice you have many other pets. I think you might enjoy my thread as I also have a rabbit, two turtles, fish, and snails. I have photos of my birds' set up, toys, cage, etc. I'd love to give you more information on birdcare if you're willing. My email address is lessthananna@hotmail.com if you ever want to chat.

Brandy is on a distinguished road
actually cement perches are horrible for your birds feet,,they can cause arthritis and sores,,,if you want to go with a 'cement type' then Sandy perch is the way to go,,,

http://www.sandyperch.com/

I have to agree,,,your parrots need more toys and larger cages,,,the finches wont play with toys but I bet they would enjoy some new perches and a boing or something, possibly even a mirror

one of the things I noticed right away is the cleaniness of your Finch's cage, dried and old bird poop produces spores and which can lead to sickness in your birds, such as Aspergillosis, this is not something you should risk within your small flock

Also you should think LONG AND HARD before adding a cockatoo,,,,does your Mom realize they can live up to about 80 yrs, maybe longer depending on the species,,,also they are a VERY demanding bird, very destructive, ,,,it will NOT be happy stuck in a small cage with no toys,,and cockatoos will DESTROY toys within days, they need CONSTANT stimulation ,,,if they dont get it, or if they are locked in a small cage all day long, then you will end up with a bird with many problems,,,probably such as depresseion and feather plucking

have you ever visited this site,,if not I suggest you read EVERYTHING and really think about your decisions about a cockatoo

http://www.mytoos.com/

i dont want to sound to harsh.....but with a few simple changes Im sure your birds would be much happier

Sand coated perches are actually bad for bird's feet too. They tear up the bottom of the bird's feet, while doing very little nail trimming. I like to use the calcium perches.
