It's not really recommended as your budgies could get stressed form bigger birds being around them. Birds are gernerally group oriented and like to be in groups of similar species. Finches, for instance, woud handle being with different finch species. But budgies and cockatiels are a bit too different to be able to live together peacefully. There are always exceptions to this rule, but generally it's not a good idea.

I know alot of people that have mixed flight cages

as long as the cage is big enough and each and every bird has their own space, it can easily be done

obviously to start off, you should let them have some supervised out of cage play time together and see what happens, some birds like to be alone, some like company, some same species birds will not tolerate having a roomate either even if its the same species, like one budgie might not allow another budgie into the cage

ALWAYS start off on neutral territory for BOTH birds, wheter it be the bathroom, or bedroom, a room neither of them ever go, and IF they do tolerate each other and you try to make a go at it, buy a NEW cage that neither bird is used to,,,NEVER put a budgie into the cockatiels cage or vise versa, birds can be very territorial over their belongings,,

that being said,,even if it does work and they live happily together,,problems can always arrise, so always keep a close watch on them

cockatiels

Brandy thanks for the help may try the idea of supervision first and see what happens as the budgies are my sons and are in a small cage and the cockatiels are mine there are three of them and not sure what sex they are but the idea of being able to put all the birds together if fantastic hope it will turn out for the birds sake and my sanity.

something else you can do is set both cages beside each other for a few weeks, let the birds get to know each other through the bars before letting them out for supervised playtime,,,that way they are not all strangers

and remember, you will have the best results if the playtime is in a neutral room
