| Cockatiel I clipped my cockatiels nails yesterday while my husband held him. I was being so careful but he moved the same time I clipped his one back toe and I snipped it off too short. It bled some and I stopped it with some flour and he seems fine just ticked off. It didn't bleed at all yesterday afternoon or last night and he seemed fine when I put him back in his cage last night. Well this morning his perch has blood on it and his food dish has quite abit of blood in it. Once again it has stopped bleeding and he is acting totally fine. Besides feeling really bad about clipping his nail too short I wonder if it will bleed on and off until it starts to grow alittle? He is walking on both feet fine again today............ |

| Thanks Brandy......I hate it when it happens too. I clip nails on our guinea pig, rats, rabbits and hedgehogs and I can't even remember when I have ever cut them too short. Poor Ozzy screamed when I did it and I I think he is still mad at me |

| cindi there is some stuff you can get at the pet stre to stop bleeding nails on birds. Fromwhat I understood, it acts like the new invisible band aids for humans and actually coats the nail, prevents infection and prevents it from bleeding all over again. I forget what it's called but I'm sure you loca store will know what I am talking about. You might want to give that a try

| aww sorry to hear about that. my bird wont let me trim his nails. even if i have my dad hold him and i do the triming. since he wont let me trim them i got him this bird perch that they can scrape their beaks and nails and it trims them down. i got it at a all pet. it works well because his beak is always perfect and his nails are never to long or to short. i found it the easiest thing that works and to use.

| I was going to try one of those sand perches but the breeder I bought my bird from said it was hard on their feet. I had to cut Ozzy's nails because he was getting caught on my couch fabric. I will see if I can pick up some of that bird nail stuff Solarsis I think it would be good to have on hand just incase next time. Ozzy is climbing all over his cage as I type this and his nail is fine today thank goodness. |

| In my bird cage I use real branches for most of the perches...then I have 1 dowel that I cover with the sandpaper type thingy that emy is talking about...I've heard that they aren't good for them to perch on but that's only if that's the only type they are given...variety is the spice of life...
