Page 123...

I saw this on some blogs (including my own) about 6 months ago and I thought that it might be fun to do here. Here are the instructions:

Quote:
Instructions:

Grab the nearest book. *
Open the book to page 123.
Find the fifth sentence.
Post the text of the next three sentences on your blog along with these instructions
* 'nearest' means you can't rummage around for a 'cool' or 'intellectual' book. Really, whatever your hand falls on first.
The nearest book to me is a book that Robert is reading, Monster Island: A Zombie Novel by David Wellington. Here is what the fifth, sixth and seventh sentences on page 123 say:

Quote:
At the end, the bus terminal must have been the only way out of town. I had no great desire to do inside and see what had become of all those panicked refugees. It would be depressing at best, I thought, shocking at worst.

Sounds fun! But the nearest book to me is my Cost Accounting text.

Here goes...
Quote:
The indirect cost account of manufacturing overhead control is, in effect, decreased by means of its conta account, manufacturing overhead allocated. Manufacturing overhead allocated is the record of manufacturing overhead allocated to individual jobs based on the budgeted rate multiplied by actual units used of the allocation base. It comprises all manufacturing costs that are assigned to a product using a cost allocation base because they cannot be traced to it in an economically feasible way.
Wow...I lead an interesting life.

This was very odd, as that was where my bookmark usually stays in that book as I tend to need reinforcement on passive voice...

Stephen King On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

And this is the entire paragraph just because it makes more sense that way.

"The timid fellow writes The meeting will be held at seven o'clock because that somehow says to him, "Put it this way and people will think you really know!" Purge this quisling thought! Don't be a muggle! Throw back your shoulders, stick out your chin, and put that meeting in charge! Write The meeting's at seven. There, by God! Don't you feel better?"

This is from SHE'S COME UNDONE by Wally Lamb.

-> I'd pierced my ears that February, during the week I'd been suspended for smoking in the equipment room when I was supposed to be taking modified gym. "I've got better things to do than whack at Ping-Pong balls," I'd told the vice principal and Mr. Pucci. "I mean what's the point?"
