Lasik

So I went to the LASIK MD here for my initial consultation this morning. They said that I am an excellent candidate (apparently I have thick corneas! ) so I booked in for June. I am having the new Zyoptix done which is a bit more expensive but it should have better results.

Anyone else had LASIK done? And how was the experience for you?

Cinnamon will become famous soon enough
I did this 3 years ago (May 17th 2004 to be exact) - I am SO glad that I did it and consider it money very well spent. I paid $3000.

My prescription was -8.00 in one eye and -8.50 in the other eye. It is an undescribable experience to wake up in the middle of the night and be able to read (heck, to be able to SEE) the alarm clock

I had no complications. They sent me home with T3 and sleeping pills but I didn't need either. My eyes were a little light sensitive the first few days and quite watery, but that was the worst of it. I was given permission to drive again at my 72 hour appointment.

from me!

My nephew just had it done.. he needed it done as he's going through to be a police officer. He didn't have any complications either.. similar to Lisa.

Did you have the numbing drops for your eyes? They put some in my eyes today and they were so creepy!! I couldn't feel anything but she did the glaucoma test...where they tap your eyeball with a spring loaded plunger. I could tell she was pressing on my eyeball because my vision was changing but I couldn't feel anything!

I am very excited!

Oh yes, they wouldn't do it without numbing first. I don't remember how it felt (I guess that's the point ) but the whole thing is quite weird. Nothing like having your eyelids pried open, staring into a red flashing light and hearing the laser doing its thing.

Sorry, I didn't mean during the procedure but when you went home...did they give you drops to go home with?

The thought of eye surgery creeps me out. If the surgery is successful, do you end up with perfect (or next to perfect) vision?

Oh, Yes, they sent me home with drops - but i don't think they were to numb my eye. I think they were to prevent infection & keep them lubricated. I can't quite remember, though

Danielle - I went from TERRIBLE vision to near-perfect vision in 24 hours. It's pretty cool. I don't need glasses or contacts at all anymore

Yep, there are quite a few people that I know who have improved to better than 20/20 vision.
