Anyone been to a destination wedding?

As you all can tell by my ticker...we have decided on a destination wedding planned for January 7, 2008. Has anyone been to a destination wedding? If so, where was it and what did you like/dislike about it?

No, but are you inviting me? I would love to go to an island wedding J/K.

I haven't been to one but I would love to go. Alot of people don't like to take time off work and spend that kind of money though.

That's my brother's birthday

I've never been to any destination weddings but it would be a great excuse to get away It's also a good way to keep it small & intimate.

The only problem I would be worried about is if there are people I really want to be there who couldn't afford to travel. As we all know, traveling is a huge expense and not everyone can afford it.

I'm already looking forward to seeing the pics

Candy, I just went to my friend's destination wedding in Jamacia in November.
Pros- a great vaca
on the resort, everywhere you turned you knew someone

Cons- If you get a chance to relax ( we only got 1 out of the 5 days we were there to ourselves)
Kinda expensive for just anyone, but close family and friends make it intimate
I thought it was nice, but not something I would want for myself, I liked that everyone could enjoy the day with me.

With that said, I am looking forward to pics

The more the merrier!

Lisa, it was my grandma's birthday as well.

We are trying to keep the trip as inexpensive as possible for our guests. We are being realistic that a lot of people will not be able to make it for financial or other reasons. We looked into a wedding at home but it's just not us.

Teresa, why no time to relax? We are hoping that we will only be taking one day out of our guests' vacations.

I will definitely keep you all posted...

I belong to a wedding forum on Nexopia and one of the ladies on there wanted a destination wedding. After researching the costs, the cheapest price for her guests was $2200 per person.

That sounds about right. It depends on where you are getting married. For one week and the resort we've chosen, it will be between $1500-2000. For two weeks, $2000-2500. We aren't too concerned with the price as most of our guests do have the money to go if that is what they want to do. Plus we are giving them plenty of time to save.

So, I have a update!

We have almost sold out our group booking! By the end of next week, we should have our booking full plus some. So far, there are 20 people going, should be 26 soon! It's going to be a very good party.

And the best part is, most of the hard stuff is already done (ceremony, reception, etc.). Now I just need to shop for attire and shoes!!
